Doctor Ram Shrestha visits the Netherlands

Education
The talks about supporting education were very successful. In autumn the University of Maastricht is planning to help realise the Problem Oriented Training in Dhulikhel. Besides this form of education for medical students, training facilities were initiated for specialisms  such as “Gynaecological diseases and Obstetrics” and “Anaesthetics”. The latter specialism has a high priority, for: without anaesthesia no operations!

Wilde Ganzen and ICCO
Doctor Ram was interviewed and he helped to make shots for the TV programme “Drents Diep”. We used the media to announce that “Wilde Ganzen” and ICCO are willing to contribute a considerable sum of money to the Golf tournament at Havelte on 16 June next.
Because of their support the proceeds might even be tripled.
This might make it possible to build an accommodation for 100 paramedics to be. This project links up to the building of the outreachpost of Dapcha. This medical facility is financed by Lions Club “Tilburg Regte Heide”; yet again supported by Wilde Ganzen.
The building progresses steadily and we visited Dapcha last November.

Political Situation
Asked about the political situation in Nepal, Dr. Ram answered that of  all the bad possibilities, the least bad had been chosen. He is an optimist and emphasised that medical care is so “close to the people” that no-one in their right mind would obstruct it. The Maoists, too, realise that the building of the outreachpost of Dapcha creates jobs.

It was encouraging to hear that the present measures taken by the king have divided the Maoists and that a split has come about in the party.
A movement that does want to negotiate is arising
