Feasibility study central during working visit

Now that the political situation has calmed down (January 2007), visiting Nepal is a truly emotional event for us. The people are cheerful again and have faith in the future. The interim government in which the Maoists take part has been installed. Elections will be held in June.
In this positive atmosphere we were able to work hard at contributing to the contents of the medical part of the feasibility study. This was possible because “Dhulikel” has accepted the feasibility study with open arms since this is their own policy.

The “Big Four”- in addition to managing director Ram Shresta, three energetic young colleagues of  Dr Ram’s - were available 24 hours a day. This bottom-up system, with Nepalese people running the hospital, is the only way in which development aid works. Unfortunately the Western world only too often merely “launches” a project, which inevitably leads to failure and corruption.
It would be fantastic if our joint efforts would incite the Dutch government to financially support Dhulikel Hospital. We are hopeful because the financial basis of the hospital is sound as a rock.

Apart from interviews with several specialisms the emphasis was on visiting government hospitals and outposts. We strive for cooperation with the healthcare of the Nepalese government.

During our stay the AMPC delegation arrived to prepare everything for the “final round”. AMPC is an agency for professional hospital planning. The report is to be presented to FMO, the development bank of the Dutch government, before 1 April 2007.
