Fulltime urologist at
Dhulikhel Hospital Soon

Beside the care for Mother and Child the development of urology is a spearhead of our Foundation. During the past few years we purchased urological instruments for Dhulikhel Hospital (DHOS). This has made it possible for cystoscopy, endoscopic operations of the bladder and prostate plus minimal invasive kidney stone operations to be performed. However, these operations could not be performed on a daily basis.
This is about to change. From half November 2007 up to and including February 2008  Doctor Hem Nath Joshi, a surgeon at DHOS, had a fellowship at the department of urology at Groningen University. This is the beginning of his training as an urologist. The emphasis of his training in Groningen was on the lower urinary tract. In the six months to come his basic urological knowledge in this field will be increased by training his manual skills. To this end four Dutch urologists will successively go to DHOS to train Doctor Joshi to be a capable surgeon in the field of endoscopic operations of the bladder and the prostate.

In January 2009 Doctor Joshi will come to Groningen once more. This time to study the upper urinary tract. Then in September 2009 his training will be completed after Dutch urologists will have participated in his schooling “on the spot”.

At his farewell in Groningen Doctor Joshi received the richly deserved certificate from his tutor urologist Doctor Igle Jan de Jong.

As can be seen in the pictures this happy event was also celebrated in the domestic circle. A Nepalese meal (champagne did not fail!) taken together with representatives of the Foundation of Nepalimed.
