Record amount of €25,000 for Birth Centre
Nepalimed Golftournament 2008

Here we all were again. It goes without saying that the hard core of this annual event: contributors and “flight captains” were also present. Some new companies were given a hearty welcome. This time the tournament had been organised by Holland Golf Events. The Foundation of Charity&Sport helped us enormously from the very beginning. We would again like to thank Rob Vissers and his staff for their efforts during all those years.

Marcel Maijer, sports journalist for RTL 4, introduced the “flight captains”. As for the weather, you could not imagine a greater contrast to last year. Then Meppel and Hoogeveen were flooded and we had to end the tournament prematurely. This year it was drizzly in the morning but in the afternoon it was suddenly lovely and warm. The prize-giving ceremony and drinks took place on the terrace and to top it all we had an Indonesian rice table.
The weather, the facilities at Havelte Golf Club and the efforts made by caterer Jonker are the basis for the annual success. Why else would many of the participants come back again during the year to play a round of golf on this beautiful course?
This year Boom Creatief captained by former Feijenoord player Dick Schneider, football international and 58 times standby for Oranje, won the first prize. Ninety-three stableford points and Gert Loijenga, our unrivalled “webmaster” won the birdy prize.
The second prize was for the team of Reclame Studio Jan Dolsma. Third ex aequo was Energiewacht Groep Zwolle with former international hockeyplayer José Poelmans, who won the prize for the women’s longest drive yet again. The neary was for Paul Sinning and the men’s longest drive was won by Sande van de Water who hit a “Tiger Woods” shot of 293 metres. Bronze was for the Foundation of Van den Broek Lohman Funds Nunspeet.
Ewald Kist, former chairman of the Board of Directors of ING, former hockey international and a member of the Recommending Committee, captained Twynstra&Gudde to bronze too.
The amount of money raised, €25,000, will be used for a “Birth Centre” for better obstetric and gynaecological care thus reducing the deaths of mothers and children even more.
In short, it was a wonderful day. Also, the participants were so kind as to send Ammy, who was ill, a beautiful bunch of flowers.
